Myofascial and mobilization techniques

Soft and mobilization techniques of the spine and peripheral joints are the most important and most widely used techniques for the treatment of painful myofascial trigger points, which are precisely located, sensitive sites in contracted skeletal muscles. These sites are characterized by spontaneous pain or pain when moving. In the complex treatment of pain, the use of these techniques is the basic choice. Muscle trigger points are characteristic of the so-called myofascial pain syndrome, which may be associated with other neuromuscular diseases, mechanical overload or mental stress. It is the most common painful muscle disease.

Joint mobilization – it is a gradual increase in movement in the joint. We perform it with gentle repeated movements at the limit of possible movement, thus just before reaching the preload in the joint. When repeating the movement, we do not return to the middle or starting position, but we continue to reach the limit of movement. During mobilization, we feel the movement relax and the blockage either diminishes or disappears completely with a light blockade. During mobilization therapy, the momentum of the peripheral joints and spine returns to the correct position. It is most often used for functional joint blockages, which are painful, restrict movement and lead to muscle spasms, etc. The aim of the treatment is to relax the movement segment, restore joint play, but also adjust muscle tension and treat so-called trigger points.

When myofascial techniques are appropriate

  • headache, blurred vision, tinnitus
  • neck and neck pain and stiffness
  • back pain (area around the shoulder blades, ribs, blockages of the thoracic spine)
  • pain and limitation of shoulder movement (painful shoulder syndrome, frozen shoulder)
  • wrist, elbow, finger pain (carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, spear elbow)
  • post-accident conditions – car accidents – (whiplash effect)
  • pain and tension in the lumbar and hip area, shooting pain to the feet, tingling toes
  • some scoliosis
  • limitation of feeling and momentum due to fractures
